Australian Annual Inflation Measure Rises to 3.7% on Tobacco

high cigarettes pricesA gauge of Australia’s annual inflation accelerated in May above the top of the central bank’s target range to the fastest pace since October 2008. Consumer prices advanced 3.7 percent from a year earlier, after gaining 2.9 percent in April, according to an index compiled by TD Securities Ltd. and the Melbourne Institute released in Sydney today. Prices increased 0.5 percent from a month earlier, when they rose 0.4 percent.

Reynolds American Closed Two Tobacco Factories

tobacco plantReynolds, which makes Camel and Pall Mall cigarettes and Grizzly smokeless tobacco, said it will close its Winston-Salem based Whitaker Park factory, as well as one in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, and will move production from these to its largest facility in Tobaccoville, North Carolina.
