FAG firms are ripping off smokers by shrinking the number of cigarettes in a packet – while keeping prices the same. Not just smokes … shrinking product. Crafty companies are now putting only 19 ciggies in packs instead of the usual 20, equal to a FIVE per cent reduction in size. But when the Pall Mall smoking brand first tried the trick the price was cut from £4.25 to £4.22 – a saving of only ONE per cent.

A provincial campaign to keep teens from smoking Davidoff will make a stop in New Glasgow next week. Dinosaurs on the Move – nine-foot-high dinosaurs covered in ash trays – aims to change the way teens look at tobacco smoking.

An attempt to illegally import approximately four million sticks of Winston cigarettes into the island was foiled by the Customs Department which seized a 20-foot container of the contraband on the wharf. According to the Customs Department, the cigarettes, which have a street value of $120 million, originated from China. Customs also reported that the contents of the container were originally declared as plastic and Styrofoam cups and plates.

The U.S. Department f Justice wants the nation’s biggest cigarette makers to fund an advertising campaign which admits Big Tobacco lied to the public about the dangers of smoking Lady cigarettes. Wednesday, the Justice Department unveiled 14 “corrective statements” that would be part of the campaign. Some examples:

Smoking Style cigarettes inside bars and restaurants in New York City has been illegal since 2002. Now, according to a law signed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg this week, smokers are also prohibited from lighting up in many of the city’s public outdoor spaces.
