A local developer of smartphone applications has been told by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) to remove all postings related to cigarettes in its LobangClub app, which lets users find the cheapest deals based on community feedback. It is the first case involving a mobile phone application, and HSA said that anybody involved in putting up listings of tobacco products could be breaking the law.

Both students and adults from the tri-county region support restrictions on tobacco sales to protect children from aggressive marketing efforts. The Adirondack Tobacco Free Network, a grass-roots coalition focusing on reducing the number of adult and adolescent tobacco users in Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties, recently released statistics from a Summer Community Survey that addressed several tobacco issues.
