Two legislation are being heard together and they contained separate groups of Quebec prosecutors, some of them who have gotten very serious disease from smoking cigarettes, and others who declared that they can’t quit smoking. The accused companies — Imperial Tobacco Canada Ltd., Rothmans and Benson & Hedges – all were strongly armed with lawyers and pubic-relations staff as the case finally came to trial, 14 years after an initial group of plaintiffs filed a suit.

With Southeast Asia to be one district in 2015, anti-smoking campaigners are joining new forces to turn the fast-growing area into a healthy region by trying to make smokers’ life difficult. Recent statistics showed tobacco smoking killed approximately six million people last year, with Southeast Asia accounting for about 20% of global smoking deaths.

Avidity very often makes the greedy ones pretext to the reflection of greed. We cannot find a better example of such a greed and rashness as the proposed law of Cavite Rep. Joseph Emilio Abaya, which would increase taxes on cigs and bevarages by more than 1,000 per cent. Supporters of the new bill are easily blinded by the billions of pesos in additional income that higher smoking products taxes will bring to the gov. They also think that contraband is not a crime, essentially a law enforcement problem that simply prevent government of implicit incomes.

The push is on to get out the word about Durham’s new outdoor smoking prohibition. The new legislation will prohibit smoking tobacco for example on sidewalks, in parks and on other public outdoor places in Aug. 1, and the County has begun putting up educational placards starting with this week. It is new change for a town with a smoking tobacco tradition. “I remember when the tobacco sprinkled just filled the air,” declared Gayle Harris, public health director for Durham County.
