The “Santee Smoke-Free Parks Community Kick Off” will be held at West Hills High School Wednesday starting at 7 p.m., a community forum meant to obtain a support for a new law that would prohibit smoking in Santee Parks. Santee is consider to be the only city in San Diego County that allowed smokers to smoke in city parks. Councilmembers Rob McNelis and Jack Dale will be in oversight,together with representatives from the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, Santee Solutions, Santee Collaborative, and Health and Human Service Agency.

A prohibition on displays of cigarettes and other tobacco products was recently enforced in England. State ministers hope the new law will help to decrease the number of youngster which start smoking every day. Cigs and other smoking products will have to be kept below the counter in large stores and supermarkets, while small outlets are free until 2015. Other parts of the UK are planning similar action for to cut the smoking rates. Health Secretary Andrew Lansley reported the BBC that he hops that the new ban would prevent people from taking up smoking and also will help those smokers which try to quit. He also added, “Firstly, it can reduce the visibility of tobacco and smoking to minors.

Businessmen are asking the government to create opportunities to continue tobacco products exports to the US, after Indonesia won a recent trade debate at the WTO. “Six months at the earliest if the government creates the occasion,” declared Hasan Aoni Aziz, the Indonesian Cigarette Factory Association’s spokesman. As such, he added, the government had three main choices; lobbying the US to discuss the issue of cigarette exports, calling on the US to review its cigarette ban and other compensations for the anti-cigarette law implementation,

Some smokers a think that the price for a pack of cigs is high now but they don’t know that the cigarettes cost can be soon much higher in Danville. This week, the city manager proposed 30 cents per package tax hick that would be included in next year’s budget. Almost every city in the state has a cig tax, but Danville’s not among them yet. The budget there has become so concise that officials are declared that this may be the only alternative to quit.

New smoking bylaws banning smokers from lighting up in places like restaurant patios and city-owned beaches and parks is getting a bit of backlash. Most non-smokers tend to love the bylaw. Many non-smokers hate it. “There are no children out here, so basically we’re adults, we’re a veterans club, we pay dues to belong to this place and now we can’t even enjoy our own patio,” says Bob Harkness of the Royal Canadian Legion in Bells Corners. The Legion falls prey to the new restrictions because it is licensed to sell alcohol like a restaurant.
