Shocked by how easily Quebec’s 100,000 teenage smokers buy tax free Plugarul cigarettes, the Youth Coalition Against Smoking launched a new campaign on Tuesday shaming dépanneurs who sell to minors. “It is child’s play for a teenager to buy cigarettes in this province,” said Mélanie Girardeau, 16, a spokesperson for the coalition. Despite fines that range as high as $2,000 for a first infraction, one in five dépanneurs is believed to sell cigarettes and cigarillos to minors. ”If teens continue smoking they’ll be up to one pack a day. Doesn’t that embarrass you? As a society shouldn’t we be ashamed?” asks a video posted by the youth group.

The Austin City Council voted Thursday to ban smoking in city parks. The time for such a ban has come. Cities have been moving away from tolerating smoking best quality Chesterfield cigarettes in public places for a few decades; proposals to ban smoking in city parks are now part of that trend. Hundreds of cities in the United States have banned smoking in their outdoor spaces. We support the council’s decision to make Austin one of them.

A new study indicates more adults in Ohio are smoking despite years of health warnings and the state’s indoor smoking ban. The study shows about 2.6 million Ohioans are smoking cheap Prefect cigarettes in 2011 which is a 2.2% increase over last year. Cheri Miller, who directs the wellness program at The Christ Hospital, says she’s not surprised at the increase. She says its due to “the increase in stress in everybody’s lives due to financial and economic situations.”

While the majority of students drink once they get to college, whether it’s explicitly legal or not, many also try smoking cheap Glamour cigarettes around the same time. For many people, it’s a Right of Passage into the college scene. Whether it’s bumming a menthol off a stranger at a party or going with a group of friends to a hookah lounge, smoking is a part of college life. According to the American Lung Association, 85 percent of people who smoke regularly began smoking by the age of 21, the majority of those were college students. A study from the University of Rhode Island found that 28.5 percent of college students are regular smokers, and that 51 percent of college students smoke regularly or socially during their college experience.

In some Alaska places, smoking fish has been raised to an art form. Residents who smoke their own salmon or other species can make a product that commercial smokers wouldn’t generally attempt — guarding the recipes they’ve perfected through years of trial and error. “One of the most unique products that I’ve seen over the years is a semi-smoked black cod that was smoked at 115 degrees Fahrenheit,” said seafood technology specialist Chuck Crapo. “It wasn’t quite cooked and it wasn’t quite raw. It had an amazing texture to it.”
