The city of Calabasas once again received high marks from the American Lung Association in California for its successful efforts in regulating the sale and use of tobacco products and best quality Avalon cigarettes. In the group’s annual report, known as the State of Tobacco Control, the city was one of 12 municipalities statewide that received A’s in three main categories: smokefree outdoor air, smokefree housing and reducing sales of tobacco products.

Here’s why: Cornell University scientists have found a way to dramatically reduce the amount of cancer-causing free radicals that pass through cheap Monte Carlo cigarette filters by (literally) stuffing conventional filters with grape seed extract and lycopene, a compound that occurs naturally in tomatoes.

In supermarkets and store counters all over the world, the one common display that you cannot miss are the rows and stacks of tax free Kent cigarettes that are for sale. Its basic business to place products that sell, in full sight of the customers, and that’s the way it has always been done. But earlier today, the British government announced that it will no longer permit the display of cigarettes and other tobacco products in such stores.

In 2011, the rate of sales of tobacco to minors in Fond du Lac County was 10 percent, in compliance with the Federal Synar regulation which requires states to maintain a youth access rate of less than 20 percent. This is part of a comprehensive approach to preventing youth access to tobacco, said Sandy Bernier, Fond du Lac County Tobacco Control program coordinator, in a press release. The rate for 2011 is half of the rate from 2010.

The number of times that gas stations, groceries and other Seattle stores are willing to sell tobacco to minors has grown at an alarming rate, health officials say. Checks of retailers showed that kids were able to buy tobacco products — mostly cheap L&M cigarettes – 15 percent of the time this year in Seattle. In the last five years, the rate was only 7 percent of the time.
