The Monongalia County Health Department passed a county-wide smoking ban Monday, and it even has some bar owners breathing easier. “We’re ecstatic,” said Jared Riggleman, a manager at the Boston Beanery in downtown Morgantown. They went smoke-free in August to prepare for a Morgantown smoking ban that was set to go into effect. Instead, the city waited for the county to keep pace and left the Beanery to watch their smoking tax free Robinson cigarettes clientele walk away.

Anti-tobacco forces on Monday began another attempt to ban smoking discount Ritm cigarettes in most public places in Indiana. An anti-smoking proposal is expected to have a pretty good chance of passage, if Democratic lawmakers report to chambers in spite of their opposition to the right-to-work bill. Supporters hope the bill will pass before the Super Bowl, but some sponsors said they regret that the measure is primarily being pushed because of the event.

For lovers of fine cigars, Belicoso Cigar Lounge in Orland Park has been a smoky oasis in an otherwise smoke-free village. But the village and the shop’s owner are locked in a legal dispute in federal court, with Orland Park yanking Belicoso’s business license and the owner claiming ethnic discrimination. Attorneys for both sides were in court Tuesday, with the shop seeking a temporary restraining order to stave off the license revocation. The judge indicated that she will issue a ruling at a later date, said Nabih Ayad, Belicoso’s lawyer.

Douglas County employees taking a smoke break outside their offices will soon have to find a new place to puff – or just plain quit. Beginning on January 1, 2012, all of Douglas County’s grounds and properties will be entirely tobacco-free. The initiative includes the elimination of designated outdoor areas where employees and visitors are currently permitted to use tobacco products. Smokers won’t even be allowed to light up in their own cars if they’re on county property.

Large swathes of outdoor public spaces in Wales could be designated “smoke-free” in the ongoing drive to reduce smoking rates, under new Welsh Government proposals. The new tobacco control action plan proposes restricting smoking cheap OK cigarette on all hospital and NHS grounds, and in school and children’s playgrounds.
