Inhabitants especially smokers pay 79 cents in state taxes on cigs in Kansas and only 17 cents in Missouri. Prop B would add 73 cents in state taxes per package, for a total of 90 cents. And if you do the math, it’s a 429 per cent tax hike, not 760, as opponents require.

A new research finds that young adults are not only smoking cigarettes but also use more than one smoking product, like cigars and hookah. The study, published in the May issue of the Journal of Environmental and Public Health, comes from Legacy, a national public health organization dedicated to reduce tobacco use in the United States. The investigation looked at smoking habit among young adults, and included an examination of those using cigs plus another tobacco product.

In a special inspection, officials found many hotels in Kuta were still violating the smoke-free policy and even permit their guests to smoke tobacco in their lobbies and open areas. A team of inspectors, consisting of officials from the provincial public order office (Satpol PP), Bali Health Agency and anti-smoking advocates, conducted the raid at a number of star-rated hotels located in Kuta. Among the hotels inspected were Holiday Inn, Bali Rani, Kartika Plaza Hotel, Kuta Paradiso, Bali Dynasty Hotel, Harris Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, Mercure Hotel and Bounty Hotel.

Smoking tobacco is already prohibited at beaches, parks, restaurants and also near buildings in Santa Monica, but Tuesday the city council decided to enlarge the smoking prohibition and voted 4-2 to prohibit tobacco smoking for all new inhabitants of apartments and condos inside their homes, with one exception. “It also requires existing inhabitants to designate their areas as smoking or non-smoking and from then on it will be banned to smoke in a non-smoking place,” declared Adam Radinksy, head of the Consumer Protection Unit in Santa Monica.

It was found that approximately 23 per cent of women enter pregnancy as smokers and more than half continue to smoke tobacco even during pregnancy, leading to excess healthcare costs. In one of the first researches to estimate smoking bans and taxes on cigs, along with the level of smoking control spending, scientists have found that state tobacco control regulations can be more effective in cutting smoking during pregnancy, and in preventing a return to smoking within four months on average.
