FDA is expected to release regulations for e-cigarettes
There’s new information about e-cigarettes and the chemicals that go into them.
Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health found that more than 75% of liquid nicotine put into e-cigarettes contain a flavoring chemical called diacetyl, which has been linked to a disease known as “popcorn lung”.
The chemical has been linked to severe respiratory disease. Chicopee resident Brittany Gilman said she’s worried about the effects, especially on kids. “I think the raspberry flavors and the bubblegum flavors are attracting kids, because it’s more of a kid type flavor. They use grape and cherry to flavor cough syrups and stuff like that, so I think it honestly is attracting kids.”
The study also found other potentially harmful compounds in many of the tested flavors.
The FDA is expected to release regulations for e-cigarettes soon.
