Plain Cigarette Packaging Could Hurt UK Smokers

Cigarette box packaging
The UK Government is claimed to be planning to declare that it will launch legislation requiring the release of plain packaging of cigarettes.
A year ago, Prime Minister David Cameron dumped suggestions as a consequence of the row over strategist Lynton Crosby’s relationships to tobacco lobbying. Health Minister Earl Howe is currently most likely to pass a modification to the Children and Families Bill in the House of Lords in the course of the coming month.

Several months ago, the very first research was released concerning the impact plain packaging had had on cigarette sales particularly in Australia.

“Plain packaging has produced a significant impact on cigarette users, making tobacco products less attractive and raising their motivation to quit,” the Sydney Morning Herald revealed.
“In the first research introduced since plain packaging was passed in December, plain pack smokers stated they were more likely to believe their smokes had poorer in quality, not as much satisfying as the previous one and to rate kicking the habit as a larger concern in their lives.”
A British American Tobacco (BAT) representative shared with the Sydney Morning Herald: ”The cigarette market has continued to be steady. Consumers have not altered their buying behavior,” he added.

According to estimates, in 2013, the first time, records on cigarette tax statements and predictions was absent from the Government’s finance papers.

“In addition to the package, Australia prohibited the majority of the last vestiges of cigarette advertising in 1992, so someone aged 21 these days has never seen local cigarette advertising,” ABC’s Simon Chapman explained not so long ago.

“Not coincidentally, regular smoking prevalence among teenagers aged 15-17 year olds in Australia is today at an all time low of 4.2 %, and plain packages are estimated to hit that even lower within the coming 10 years as those being born these days grow into the smoking uptake years.”

Records provided by the government excise statements advised there had been a 7 % decline in taxed profits; however the statistics do not underline how much of that is made up from cigarette taxes.
In New Zealand, cigarette makers are legally recommended to provide the government with in depth details on the sales volume of each cigarette brand be it roll your own tobacco, cigar or pipe tobacco.
