A recent study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration suggests that youngsters between the ages of 12 and 17 are more probable to start using drugs, alcohol and cigs especially during the summer period than other seasons of the year. Rod Pruitt, Safe and Effective Schools Special Services specialist for the Region 14 Education Service Center, declared that June is “signified to be the month that marijuana is used more than any other month in the year.”

The Tasmanian Greens have called for Classic smoking to be banned around playgrounds and all children’s sporting and recreation venues. The Greens’ Health spokesman Paul O’Halloran says there’s a wealth of evidence that children learn patterns of behaviour from the adults they see around them.

Constraints on smoking Red & White cigarettes have hit a new high with the banning of smoking in public plazas, parks and beaches in New York City. The stated motive of many of the ban’s supporters is to save children from secondhand smoke exposure. I could point out that there is no proof that a child passing a smoker in the open air can cause any real harm. But I know any citations of studies, or lack thereof, would fall on deaf ears.

While Oregonians buy fewer cigarettes and die less from tobacco-related cancers, the number of people smoking Rich cig had a slight uptick in 2009 — though public health officials can’t yet say is a trend. Oregon also saw a rise last year in use of smokeless tobacco products particularly among adult males and hookah pipe smoking popular among teenagers and young adults.

A recent suggestion to prohibit smoking Avalon at self-governing owned recreation facilities has collected great support from area inhabitants, according to a study by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. The survey found that 71 per cent of the people questioned support a ban of smoking at outdoor facilities.
