Cigarette maker PT Wismilak Inti Makmur declared that it will sell up to 30 per cent of the company’s enlarged shares during an initial public offering (IPO) next month to increase funds for business expansion. “Shares of Wismilak are to be priced between Rp 575 and Rp 800 apiece,” Iman Rahman, PT Mandiri Sekuritas director, reported in Jakarta on Monday, adding that the price-earnings (PE) ratio of the shares would reach between 10 and 14 by 2013. If the PE estimate holds true, the company might increase between Rp 362.2 billion (US$37.6 million) and Rp 503.9 billion from the sale of 629.96 million enlarged shares to the public. Wismilak has named PT Mandiri Sekuritas and PT OSK Nusadana Securities Indonesia as the underwriters of its IPO.

Goa government has asked all stores and establishments and eating outlets not to sell smoking products in any form. The establishments have been directed “not to store or sell products in the form of cigs, cigars, biddies, gutka, hukkah, etc” failing which they would be “dealth with severely as per the legislation”, an official statement reported. For all the new premises, not to sell smokes would be a condition while issuing license the state government has directed all the government agencies namely the municipalities, panchayats, health services centres, tourism and food and drugs administration to inform all their subordinate Offices under their smoking control, who are involved in the issue for eating outlets in the State,

Cigarettes price increases and a focus on advertising premium smoking brands has increased revenues at Imperial Tobacco. Tobacco products sale growth brought pace at Imperial Tobacco with 9-month profit up 3 percents at the world’s No 4 cigarettes group as it gained from the ending of a tobacco price war in Spain and put many of its other 2011 smoking problems behind it. The British group, which sells approximately 340 billion cigs every year of smoking brands such as Gauloises, West and JPS, declared today its volumes for the nine months to end, June fell 3 percents, so it depends on price rises for its tobacco sales growth.

The government has announced big increase in taxes on smoking products in the budget for the financial year 2012-13, but according to health reporters, it alone cannot serve a lot on the subject of smoking control in the country. Health experts declared that taxes must be increased numerous on smoking products as evidence showed that price increased of 10% decreases consumption of cigarettes by up to 8% especially in low and middle-income countries.

In 2011, the rate of sales of tobacco to minors in Fond du Lac County was 10 percent, in compliance with the Federal Synar regulation which requires states to maintain a youth access rate of less than 20 percent. This is part of a comprehensive approach to preventing youth access to tobacco, said Sandy Bernier, Fond du Lac County Tobacco Control program coordinator, in a press release. The rate for 2011 is half of the rate from 2010.
