One of the leading cigarette manufacturers lost a Supreme Court battle these days against a prepared tobacco display ban. The UK’s greatest court ignored a request by Imperial Tobacco against the Scottish Government‘s efforts to prohibit the display of cigarettes in stores.

Global giant Imperial Tobacco has launched a legal challenge against Australia’s plain packaging for discount Plugarul cigarettes, officials said Wednesday, becoming the third company to contest the plan. “Imperial Tobacco has filed a challenge which has some similarities to the British American Tobacco (BAT) challenge,” a spokeswoman for Australia’s High Court told AFP.

A second major tobacco company went to Australia’s High Court on Tuesday to argue that new laws banning logos from cigarette packs are unconstitutional. Imperial Tobacco Australia Ltd., the third-largest company in the Australian tobacco market, filed pleadings in the country’s highest court. British American Tobacco Australia Ltd., the Australian market leader, initiated similar action last week against laws banning distinctive colors and designs from packs and rendering them uniformly olive-brown starting in December 2012.

The cigarette giant Imperial Tobacco said the price war and the smoking ban in Spain hit its performance over the past nine months, but said the impact on full-year profits would not be as bad as previously expected. The maker of Davidoff cigarettes was also able to push through price rises, which helped it grow total revenues by 2 per cent. This offset a 3 per cent fall in cigarette volumes over the nine months to 30 June.
