The Quezon City government will strictly implement a no-smoking policy within the QC Hall complex in preparation for a massive anti-smoking campaign in the city. The policy will include city-paid workers among the targets. Antonietta Inumerable had warned city hall employees and visitors to properly observe Republic Act 9211 otherwise known as Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 and Civil Service Memorandum Circular No. 17 S 2009 and SP – 1515.

After a year of promoting the Dunhill smoking awareness campaign and informing students that a change was possible, if it be their will, the Fresno City College Associated Student Government found that the student body voted to support designated smoking areas on campus. ”I feel that it gives an opportunity for the smokers to get their rights,” said ASG Senator Stefanie Sorondo, who headed the smoking campaign.

The City of Sheboygan is easing its restrictions on enclosed public smoking areas at businesses such as bars and restaurants, though an official said the city ordinance still would be in compliance with the statewide Marlboro smoking ban.

Sullivan County is poised to ban smokers from lighting up Wind on county property under a proposed law that could be approved when the full Legislature meets Feb. 17. The law, which is set for a public hearing that same day at 1:40 p.m., would ban outdoor smoking on county-owned property.

Central Park in La Palma will be smoke and tobacco-free starting Feb. 1, despite a smoldering debate and close vote at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. Three of the council’s five members voted against establishing a small designated smoking area in the park, which would have been between the recreation buildings and the basketball courts.
