The ambience inside the restaurant was marvellous. There was a banquet hall on the same floor as the restaurant and a wedding reception was taking place there. Our meal was great. But after dinner and as we were walking to the lift lobby, we had a shock of our lives. We found the entire lift lobby transformed into a “smoking lounge” with restaurant’s diners as well as those attending the wedding function puffing away.

The gentlemen’s smoking lounge is making a comeback in Paris as nicotine addicts seek cosy refuge from smoking bans in mainstream bars. While most people are obliged to freeze on the pavement to keep up their Eva cigarette habit since the ban was introduced three years ago, a growing number of nightspots are offering exclusive and law-abiding shelter for smokers, complete with pianos, leather armchairs, and cigar lockers.

After the Classic smoke cleared on the statewide smoking ban instituted back in July, one local business is seeing profits light up. Titletown Tobacco at 516 Greene Avenue is drawing in visitors from all over northeast Wisconsin to their smoking lounge, a rare commodity these days.
